Frederick Raymond “Ray” Boyer, formerly of Northglenn, Colorado passed away on Friday, Dec 11, 2020. Due to COVID-19, his children were able to share words of love, peace and gratitude with him during a conference call the night before his passing. They will forever be grateful for the nurse who held the phone on the other end letting them know their dad was nodding acknowledgements of what was being said. He passed peacefully the next morning.
Ray loved fishing, eating delicious Japanese food with sushi being one of his favorites. He enjoyed going for rides in the mountains, antique shopping, collecting coins, stamps and trains, making fudge, eating fudge, and tinkering with different crafts. His life changed drastically when he lost the love of his life, his wife of 56 years, Sachiko (Numoto) Boyer. She was his everything. Grandchildren, to this day, talk about how their love was like the movie The Notebook. Just like in the movie, they imagined their grandparents going together when it was time to depart this earth and that is what their wish had been. However, it isn’t until 8 ½ years later that he is joining his beloved wife Sachi. A reunion that is beyond our words and a mending of his broken heart.
He joined the Army and served in the Korean War. He grew up in Pueblo, Colorado and later moved to Denver with his wife Sachi to raise their family. He is preceded in death by his parents Frederick R. & Florence (Parkins) Boyer Sr. and three siblings Paul Boyer, Barbara (Boyer) Rumsey, and John C.F. Boyer. He is survived by his three children; son Ray & Kim (Wirth) Boyer, son Bill & Arlene (Arita) Boyer, and daughter Janet (Boyer) & Duane Redford. Eight (8) grandchildren, Nicole Boyer (Westminster, CO), Kelly Boyer (Bellingham, WA), Melissa Boyer (Arvada, CO), Allie Redford (Grand Junction, CO), Parker Redford (Manhattan, NY), Jillian (Boyer) Morris (Minneapolis, MN), Paige Boyer (Minneapolis, MN), Brooke Boyer (Columbia, MO). As well as six (6) great-grandchildren; Eva (12), Aiden (11), Landon (9), Liala (8), Emi (5), and Maddison (2) and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Things he will be remembered for: Dedication to his nightly prayers. His sense of humor. Greeting you with “Heyyyyyy!” How fast he could eat a meal. The love of old cars. His great smile that went all the way up and through his eyes. His chipper attitude. The constant “sweeping” of crumbs off the table. Sayings like “Geez-Oh-Man!” “Cry-muh-nently.” “Stop separating your food on your plate; it’s all going to the same place.” And “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do.” (Hmmmm…) And if he was excited about something he would start off with “That dude….” Tapping his fingers on the table just like his mom used to. Standing at his door to wave goodbye to you until you were out of sight. The pride in making his fudge at Christmas time. Being told by nurses that he was a “peach”. After nurses checked under his tongue for any medication he replies, “Well, that takes care of that.” Grandchildren sitting on his lap and listening to his pocket watch. Sitting quietly at family gatherings and twiddling his thumbs. Laughing hard at his own jokes and telling them a second time just to laugh again. Having the nickname “Pudge”. Surprise attacks with a water gun. Clanking his spoon as he tried to get the last bit of ice cream out of the bowl. Joking around to not touch or mess with his hair (what little there was) and saying that when he was younger, he had thick, wavy hair; he just didn’t know it was waving goodbye.
We didn’t know during this time of COVID, that we would be waving goodbye and that Dad would do it so privately – but then again – that was just like him. We will miss him dearly, love him forever, and send him off with the deepest of gratitude for being our Dad, Grandpa, and Jichan and that he is now with the love of his life.
