Gary Lee Hastings

Gary Lee Hastings was born in 1937 in a log cabin outside of Longmont, Colorado to Joseph and Calvenia Hastings. Soon after graduating from high school, Gary joined the Army in 1955. He was stationed in Italy and was an MP while on active duty. He was honorably discharged in 1962. On October 19, 1958 he married the love of his life Carol Lou Weisberg. They raised two daughters Sherri and Cindy and one son Gary in Thornton, Colorado.

Gary loved sports, especially football. His favorite team was the Denver Broncos and he was a passionate fan since their inauguration year. He worked his entire professional career at Caterpillar where he spent over 30 years. Gary gave back to the Thornton community by coaching little league basketball for 2 years, little league baseball for 5 years and little league football for 44 years. He also served on community committees and boards. Gary loved God, his country, and his family. He was a friend to all and a stranger to none.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Calvenia Hastings, his brother's Ralph Edward, James Jay and Max Roy, one sister, Carole Lynn and his beloved son Gary Louis (Baby Gary). He is survived by his wife Carol, his two daughter's; Sherri (Jim) and Cindy, his three granddaughter's; Krystal, Azlynne (Brandon) and DeNell (Aaron), three great grandchildren Everly, Amelia, and Kingstin, his brother's Lyle and Jerry, and two sister's Anna Mae and Connie, as well as his special non-biologiocal family; Phillip, the Madsens and Donatos.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 18 2022 at Olinger Highland Mortuary (10201 Grant Street, Thornton) at 1:00 pm. A reception/Celebration of Life will be held at the home of Gary and Carol Hastings from 2:00 pm - 6:00pm. Bronco attire is encouraged. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome and appreciated to the Thornton Community Food Bank or Thornton Junior Football League.
