George Stanley McMillan

March 14, 1931 – June 23, 2026

George Stanley McMillan was born in Englewood, Colorado, on March 14, 1931, to John Thomas and Edna Genevieve (Obrecht) McMillan. His father died in a woodcutting accident when George was almost two. He attended schools in Englewood, participating in football and wrestling, and spent summers farming with his Obrecht uncles in Elbert County, Colorado. After high school, George attended the University of Colorado, Adams State University, and Western State University, receiving several teaching degrees. On May 4, 1957, he married Donna Jane Snider in Denver. They had three daughters, Kathleen, Diane, and Carol. He taught school and coached football and wrestling in Sargent School, near Monte Vista, Colorado. He later taught in Westminster, Colorado, retiring from Scott Carpenter Middle School in 1986. In the summers, he and his family lived in Encampment, Wyoming, where he worked for the US Forest Service. For many years, he was a member of the Adams Centennial Lions Club. After retiring from teaching, he owned a small wheat farm near where his uncles had farmed in Elizabeth, Colorado. He and Donna moved to Cheyenne in 2019, to be near family. He died on June 23, 2026, in Cheyenne, at the age of 95.

George is survived by Donna Jane McMillan of Cheyenne, brother Frank W. Larson, Jr. of Montrose, Colorado and a sister Sharon K. Gilmore of Winterville, North Carolina, daughters Kathleen Jane (Deane) Skinner, Diane Kay (Vickki Schlappi) McMillan and Carol Ann McMillan, grandson Michael Deane McMillan (Emily) Skinner, granddaughter Sarah Genevieve (Brandon) Sharp-Haun, great-grandchildren Courtland Lee Sharp-Haun, Janna Mae Sharp-Haun, and Elizabeth Jane Skinner, all of Cheyenne. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Ellis Grant McMillan and Thomas Edward McMillan.

George is buried in Olinger Highland Cemetery in Thornton, Colorado. A family service will be held later.
