On the morning of Sunday, July 2, 2023, Gerald (Jerry) F. Bainter of Thornton, CO unexpectedly passed away. He was 76 years old. Jerry was born on December 31, 1946, in Hannibal, MO to Dorothy & Delmar. In November of 1951, his mother married Richard who then became his stepfather.
Jerry graduated from William Chrisman High School in 1964 & attended Kansas City Tech from 1968-1970 where he received his sheet metal apprenticeship.
While working at Montgomery Ward, Jerry met Verneice. They would later marry in February of 1966. They had 5 children, twin sons & 3 daughters. They remained married until 1992. Jerry met Talara (Tally) through her sister in 1992. They were married in July of 1997 & remained married until his passing.
In December of 1974, Jerry & his family relocated to Colorado for more opportunities in his chosen field. He remained working for the local sheet metal workers union until his retirement. During his time, he would sometimes need to leave his family to complete out-of-state jobs. There were times when he held down 2-3 jobs at the same time in order to provide for his family. Later in life, Jerry became a caregiver for adults with special needs. For the last 7 years, Jerry had the pleasure of driving for Uber. This gave him the opportunity to meet a lot of interesting people & he had great conversations with his clientele.
Growing up, Jerry loved spending time with his stepfather (Richard) & cousins. They spent a lot of time outdoors hunting, fishing & camping. He passed his love of the outdoors down to his daughters. Jerry enjoyed many forms of motorsports. He was known to help build/fix engines for his friends’ dragsters. You would find him at any car-related event, the local racetrack for weekend races, car shows, etc..... He enjoyed watching the Kansas City Royals & Kansas City Chiefs play. He was such a die-hard fan that he continued to root for them in rival territory. Even after moving to Colorado, there were plenty of vacations taken to visit family. During these vacations, we would attend baseball games, go to the amusement park and play card games with family among other things. While living in Colorado, he played/coached his local softball team. He coached boys’ basketball for a local rec team. Due to his involvement with basketball, 2 of his daughters went on to play basketball in junior high school & high school. Bowling was another one of his hobbies that he consistently participated in. There were plenty of weekends when bowling tournaments were on the TV for what seemed like hours. He continued to attend weekend races at the local racetrack until he could no longer physically attend. As a matter of fact, Jerry & Tally’s first date was at a racetrack. As Jerry got older, the one thing he most loved to do was spend time with his grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Tally; daughters; Denice (Gary), Dawn (Dave) & Stacey. Stepchildren; Dwight, Adrian (Adrienne) & Tara (Randy). Half-brother; Ronnie & half-sisters; Bonnie, Connie & Sandi. 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren plus numerous cousins, nieces & nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by; his twin sons (Gary Alan & Terry Lynn), his parents (Dorothy & Delmar), his stepfather (Richard), maternal grandparents (Sarah & William), paternal grandparents (Emma & Roy) & half-brother (Delbert).
