Grace Low, a beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully October 13, 2024. She was born January 5th, 1928, in Fairlawn Hospital, Worcester, MA. She was the daughter of Bessie and Barton Seagrave and had an older brother, Milton.
Grace's early years were spent in Auburn, MA, where she attended Boyce Street School and later Julia Bancroft School. She had a passion for learning and always aspired to be a teacher or a nurse. She pursued her dream and began her nursing training at Memorial Hospital in 1946, where she excelled and formed lifelong friendships. Grace became a dedicated nurse, working in various specialties, including surgery, pediatrics, and obstetrics.
In 1947, Grace was introduced to her future husband, William (Bill) who was in the Navy. They corresponded through letters and the romance built. Bill proposed through the mail in August 1947. She even received her diamond engagement ring through the mail. They were married November 26th, 1949, as soon as Grace finished her nurse's training.
Grace and Bill moved to Kansas, where they continued building a life together, welcoming their first child, Sandra, in 1951. Grace was also actively involved in her church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school.
In August of 1951, Grace talked Bill into moving back to Massachusetts and soon thereafter came a son, Gregory in 1953 and finally one more son, Jeffrey in 1959. They ended up moving to Colorado in 1962 to be closer to Bill’s family. They purchased a home right next to his brother Jack and sister in law Delores.
Throughout her growing career, Grace worked in various hospitals, holding positions from a Registered Nurse, ER Charge Nurse, Director of Quality Assurance and Education. She helped open and close the Valley View Hospital and open the then new North Suburban Hospital. Grace retired in 1988.
Grace's life was filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, dedication, and unwavering love for her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Grace is survived by her loving children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life and the impact she had on those around her.
