Helen Hagino Okada
April 4, 1911 – February 7, 2017
Helen Hagino Okada was introduced to life on April 4th 1911 in Merino, CO, and passed away February 7th, 2017; at the young age of 105. Helen is survived by her three children; Paul (Kim) Okada; Gary Okada; and Lynne Andrews, all of Brighton, CO; as well as by her nine grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Okada; her daughter Jane Tashiro (Sam); and her sisters Mary Tokunaga; Susie Itatani; Mable Gentry; and by James Imatani. During her life Helen was a dedicated student, receiving the honorable distinction of Valedictorian of her graduating class at Brighton High School. She was an active member of the Brighton Japanese American Association, and was also president of the Brighton Nisei Women’s Club. Some of Helen’s passions in life included sewing and Bunka, and she was also an avid reader. Services will be held Wednesday, February 15th at 1 p.m. at Olinger Highland Chapel located at 10201 Grant Street in Thornton, Colorado.
