Houston B. “Jack” Hughes September 30, 1930 – November 22, 2013

Jack ended his time on this earth and entered the presence of his personal Lord and Savior on November 22, 2013. He is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 58 wonderful years, Billie June (Hamilton). Jack will be dearly missed by his children and their families: Janet and her children Jayden and Jack; Patrick and Randa and their children Jessica and Blake; John and Dawn and their daughters Kaitlyn, Camryn and Courtney; and Mark and Lisa and their daughters Lilah (“Cricket”) and Lucy. Jack is also survived by his brother, Jim Brannon of South Carolina, and many close friends and family members. He was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle Irene Boyles, and his father, Houston B. Hughes Sr. Jack was a graduate of Denham Springs High School and long-time Baton Rouge resident, a member of Broadmoor Baptist Church for many years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Borden Chemical and spent most of his retirement years living in Westminster, CO. Jack was a strong Christian and member of Tri-City Baptist Church in Westminster. He was a loving and caring person who never met a stranger and made friends everywhere he went. He loved both Colorado and Louisiana sports and was a big LSU Tiger fan. Jack loved to spend time with his family and to travel, combining the two into many wonderful family vacations. He enjoyed fishing with his son Mark and they shared special fly fishing trips together. His favorite thing to do was to visit his kids and love on his grandkids. Jack was the best husband and father ever and we miss him greatly. Thanks to the promises of the Bible we know we will be reunited and look forward to spending eternity together.

It is hard to describe all the memories that we have shared with Papa Jack. His legacy will live on in each one of his children, grandchildren and extended family. I know he will enjoy his time in heaven. Papa Jack will be greatly missed. Jack and I have always shared our love of sports (especially LSU), so I know he will always be watching every Saturday night in death valley. Forever in our hearts and prayers.

Words are not adequate to tell all of you how special Jack was to me and my family. He was always a part of my life growing up and then he and Tommy worked together at Borden Chemical before we married and we maintained a close relationship from then on. My sweet mother, Puddy, adored him and was a big part in his growing up and I know the feeling was mutual with Jack. There was no finer person than Jack -- a devoted and loving husband and father to all of you. You could hear the pride in his voice when he spoke of each of you and then came the grandchildren who he felt equally the same about. My heart is still broken over the loss of him even though I know without a doubt he is rejoicing in Heaven and was ready to go when the Lord called him. We all wish you peace, love and comfort during this difficult time and will look forward to seeing you in LA when you come later so we can give you a big hug. Know that we will be thinking about you in the days ahead.

Much love to all of you,

Kaitlyn Hughes
