James (Jim/Randy) Hammack, Sr. beloved husband, dad, grandfather and uncle, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2024, in Longmont, Colorado. He was born on August 27,1941, in Bethany, Missouri to the late Elmo L. (Bill) and Madeleen F. Hammack.
James grew up in Denver and attended schools in the area. He graduated from Westminster High School in 1959. After graduation, he started in the Electrical Trade prior to entering the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served Active Duty and Reserves for 8 years. James retired as a Master Electrician in May 2005. He was one of the last electricians on-site at Rocky Flats when the doors were closed that same year. Jim was a Lifetime Member of the Westminster Elks Lodge #2227.
James and Mary met in July 1965 and were married in Westminster, CO on April 28, 1973. Celebrating their 50th Anniversary with a family dinner was a treasure to him.
Jim was a strong, intelligent, dedicated, loving and sincere person. Family and friends were extremely important in his life. Having lunch with “his kids” always brightened his day as it did for each one of his kids. He enjoyed working the hay fields with his wife, children and grandkids on many summer days on the Farm. Traveling the world, was another of his great joys. James and Mary traveled with friends to many amazing places such as Europe, Central and South America, South Africa, Australia, and the Scandinavian countries to name a few.
James is survived by his devoted wife, Mary O. Hammack; loving children, James Jr. (Debby) Hammack of Platteville, CO; Brenda (Tony) Komloske of Arvada, CO; Mark (Mark F.) Anderson of Denver, CO; their precious grandchildren, Dominic, Hannah, and Wyatt; and many nieces and nephews that he loved like his own children. In addition to his parents, his brothers Steven Hammack, Charles Hammack and his sister, Karen Sorsby, preceded James in death.
Services will take place Friday, March 15, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Olinger Highland Mortuary & Cemetery in Heritage Hall, 10201 Grant Street, Thornton, CO. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. Following the services, please join the family for a reception at the Westminster Elks Lodge, 3850 Elk Dr. Westminster, CO 80030.
