Jim Wiley, 69, passed away on July 3, 2021, at his home in north Denver after an extended hospital visit.
He was born on September 30, 1951, in Santa Cruz, California to David and Marian (Leitch) Wiley. He graduated from Great Falls High School, class of 1969, in Great Falls, Montana. After high school, Jim briefly joined the United States Navy before receiving an Honorable Discharge on December 23, 1969. Following, he moved to Denver, Colorado and studied at the Denver Automotive and Diesel College, receiving his Automotive Technician diploma on September 10, 1971. On May 14, 1982, he received an Associate degree from the Community College of Denver in Applied Science Electronics Technology. In the 1980’s, Jim became an employee for Public Service (Xcel Energy) where he worked for over 30 years, retiring on February 26, 2016, as a System Protection Technician Specialist. On January 9, 1992, Jim first joined the Freemasons of Colorado and later also became a member of the El Jebel Shrine. He was an avid, long-time member of the American Radio Relay League and spent much of his time as a Volunteer Examiner for amateur radio licensing exams, attending Ham-fests and conventions, or making improvements to his home antennae tower and Ham-shack. Jim also had a love for rebuilding classic cars and spending time in his woodshop.
Jim is survived by his wife, Rebecca Wiley; his children, Jeremy and Veronica Wiley; his wife’s children and their spouses, Steven and Traci Brockleman, Kelly and Cristen Blevins, and Samantha Blevins; ten grandchildren, Tyler, Jasmine, Rebecca, Xander, Hunter, Teagan, Gunnar, Dean, Marcus, and Jack; his great-grandson Tyler Jr.; his mother, Marian Wiley; and his sister, Irene Erion.
He was preceded in death by his father, David Wiley.
A memorial service will be held at the Denver Masonic Temple on July 31, 2021, at 10:00am. The doors will open at 9:30a with a reception and light refreshments to follow. Military funeral honors will be rendered by the United States Navy Honor Guard.
