Janelle Marie Bruce-Lucero-Fossett

Janelle Bruce-Lucero-Fossett, age 60, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and friends following a brave battle with colon cancer. Throughout her journey, Janelle was supported by friends and family and her devoted children.

Janelle grew up grounded in strong Italian and Spanish roots. She shared a special bond with her older brother, Russ, who offered unwavering support throughout her life and as she raised her children.

Janelle earned her bachelor’s degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from Colorado State University. She enjoyed a fulfilling career in HR and recruitment, including years with the Adams County School District, before finding a true professional home as an IT Project Manager at the University of Colorado Systems. Janelle poured her heart into her work and cared deeply for her team. Her dedication was unmatched.

Above all, Janelle was an extraordinary mother. She was immensely proud of Ashley, who also graduated from CSU, studied marine science in Hawaii, and now works for the State of California as an environmental scientist. She was equally proud of Troy, who graduated from CU with a double major in economics and political science, attended law school in Boston, became a lawyer in Salt Lake City, and recently moved back to Westminster, Colorado—a return that brought Janelle immense joy.

In recent years, Janelle found a beautiful "second act" with her partner and fiancé, Mike Bruce. They were together for seven joyous years and were planning to get married next month. They embraced life fully through regular date nights, weekend getaways, and vacations, sharing a love for concerts and CU sports. Mike proved the depth of his devotion by happily accompanying her to the occasional CSU football game.

Janelle was a shining light who met people as they were and loved them unconditionally. She showed her care through thoughtful gestures and an unwavering commitment to always show up for those she loved. She especially cherished Christmas, filling the holiday season with warmth, laughter, and joy.

Janelle is survived by her fiancé, Mike Bruce; her daughter, Ashley; her son, Troy; her brother, Russ; and many loving extended family members, friends, and colleagues.

Services will be held on July 28th, at Olinger Highland Funeral Home: 10201 Grant Street Thornton, CO 80229. A celebration of life will start at 1:00 in the afternoon followed by a reception.
