Entered into Life - July 29, 1946 --- Entered into Eternal Life - May 28, 2020
On July 29th, 1946, John Edward Werner was born in the town of Hempstead, New York to
Stephen Werner, Jr. & Audrey Simpson, who raised him & his surviving three sisters; Judy,
Debbie and Gay, in Freeport, New York.
John was always curious to learn & enjoyed finding new ways to engage with others. He
mastered American Sign Language as a youth & enjoyed conversations with both hearing and
deaf. Even though he was deaf growing up he still challenged the world and communicated to
everyone. He was also athletic and this helped him communicate to those who were not deaf.
As he graduated from Freeport High School in 1964, He then discovered his motivation was to
be a dentist and pursued his Dental Technician Degree in 1965 later to explore this love further
through the world of dentistry creating molds and teeth.
In 1966, John met Anna Mary Colello through the deaf community at a Deaf Club. John & Anna
shared their connection through love & unity & through their communication in Sign Language.
They were married in 1968 in Long Island, New York. John and Anna had their first child, Alvira,
in 1970. Alvira was the light and joy and created a passion for them to move to Colorado in
1979. John had still been pursuing his love of dentistry while courting Anna & Alvira and would
eventually receive a destiny turning offer to take a role as a Dental Technician in Wheatridge
Colorado in 1979. Anna & John would find their first residence in Arvada, Colorado in 1980.
They continued their lives with a second child in 1981, with a son John Jr. and were so
delighted to have their family dreams come true. Shortly after, a tragic accident took Alvira from
them at the age of 10, forever altering their lives. In 1980, John Sr. & Anna joined a deaf club at
Silent Athletic Club (SAC) to provide a peaceful sanctuary for them and John Sr. joined the
SAC Softball team where he became very popular in the deaf community with his talented
athleticism. John Sr. & Anna were able to open their lives to children again & would go on to
have three more beautiful children that filled their lives with joy once again, Johanna, Johan and
Janna. Eventually the turmoil and emotion had parted ways between Anna and John after 24
years of marriage. Anna and all of their children remain in Colorado & the bonds of family
remain tightly woven today.
John Sr. went to explore his path in life and traveled around the east coast, heavily involved in
his softball league. John Sr. would eventually retire from dentistry & settled lonesome in Denver, Colorado. John Sr. remained true to his convivial communicative nature, as well as, to his love of athletics, in retirement & found a sanctuary of close friends within the SAC., where he could enjoy combining his passions. He became a very good poker player and competitively played with his community and expressed his talent to others. His friends at SAC were an intrical & important
part of his later years in life, providing him with an extended support network of fellowship.
In the earlier months of 2020, John Sr. was abruptly diagnosed with esophageal cancer. While
he received great care & went through an ordeal of treatments, John’s health unfortunately, still
declined. John Edward Werner, Sr., aged 73, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday,
May 28th, 2020, with his family close-by.
John Sr. is survived by Anna Werner; his four children: John E. (Jennifer) Werner, Jr.,
Johanna (Adam) Bannister, Johan A. (Ashley) Werner and Janna A. (Jamey) Green; Eight
grandchildren: Benjamin, Breanna, Anthony, Ariana, Natalia, James, Joyanna and Conrad.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Stephen & Audrey & his daughter, Alvira.
