John Gerard Witthar, 74, of Eastlake, Colorado passed away peacefully at home on Saturday June 7th, 2025. John was born in Goodland, Kansas on October 5th 1950, the son of Virgil Witthar and Caroline (Kaus) Witthar, one of two boys and three girls, Sheila Havel, Mary Witthar, Ed Witthar, and Gerilyn Sanchez. John was married to Connie (Pister) Witthar on February 9, 1980.
John graduated from Northglenn High School in 1968, where he played Basketball and baseball, John was a devout Catholic and had a huge love for farming growing up and during his teen years. He was drafted into the US Army in 1969. Upon his return to Colorado he went full time into his true passion of stockcar racing. John and his brother Ed formed the Witthar Race Team and competed on dirt tracks all across the US. John continued his career by starting his business Witthar Racing where he became the Colorado dealer for Howe Racing Enterprises and Hoosier racing tires. The business grew as John sold parts and built 100s of chassis and cars for racers across the country. Johns loud, outgoing, and loving personality on and off the track along with his signature black cowboy hat, boots and shiny belt buckle earned him the nick name "The Outlaw" and he quickly became the face of his home
track Colorado National Speedway.
Through his 100s of wins and dedication to the sport on and off the track, John was inducted into the Colorado Motorsports Hall of Fame and the CNS Ring of Fame.
John is survived by his wife Connie Witthar, Children Mary Kelly, Candace, Troy, and Cody. 10 grandchildren. His two older sisters Sheila, and Mary.
John became a legend in his life and had an unforgettable impact on so many. We will love and miss you forever, until we see you again on the other side.
