Joseph Elijah Bowen, 96 was born April 19,1922 to the late Horace Bowen and Mary Scruggs Bowen in Memphis, Tennessee. He was preceded by his wife of over fifty years, Toshiko Bowen, his siblings George Bowen, Augusta Bowen Williams, Erma Bowen Westbrooks, Charles E. Bowen, Arthur Bowen, Lillie Bowen Anderson - Tipton, Fred Bowen, and Callie Mae Bowen Lynch.
He was raised in holiness at Carnegie Church of God in Christ in Memphis, Tennessee. He loved the Lord and his family.
Joseph was educated in Memphis City Schools, graduating in 1941 from Booker T. Washington High School, ranking third in his class. In the fall of 1941, he enrolled at LeMoyne College,however during the second semester of his sophomore year, he was drafted into the United States army. He would serve his country for the next 25 years. He received the rank of Master Sergeant and was awarded many medals and honors. While in the army, he was able to complete his college education at Prairie View College in Texas, becoming an electrical engineer
After an honorable discharge from service, he worked as an engineer at Bell Laboratory in New Jersey, later transferred to Colorado. He decided to make his home in Colorado.
He enjoyed traveling and camping in the mountains in his RV, building objects in his workshop and debating on any topic.
Joseph leaves to cherish his memories, one sister, Bernice Bowen Jones of Memphis, Tennessee, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He entered into eternal rest December 15, 2018.
