Juanita Kathryn Long was born to Roy Diehl and Kathryn Buckler Diehl in Ault, Colorado following her older brother Ivan. Both parents came from early homestead families. In 1929, when she was less than a year old, her family left Colorado for California to escape the Dust Bowl and pick oranges. Some time later, they came back and settled in the Denver area where she started grade school. She attended Cole Junior High and graduated from Manual High School. After school in the evenings she worked for the phone company.
Juanita met Al Long through a friend and they married in May of 1946. This union brought two children, Barbara and Allen. Juanita was a Cub Scout den mother for Allen and sewed for Job's Daughters Bethel 18 Drum and Bugle Core for Barbara. She volunteered at a local food bank. Juanita belonged to the Eastern Star, Loyal Order of the Moose and the Rebekah's. She was in the Rebekah Lodge in Englewood as the Noble Grand and the District Deputy President, as well as other offices before being transferred to the Arvada Rebekah Lodge in June of 1986. There she held several offices, including Instructor at the School of Instruction. In 1954, Al was promoted to Terminal Manager of the trucking company he worked for in Lusk, Wyoming. They lived in Wyoming for two years and moved back to Denver, where she spent the rest of her years.
Juanita and Al bought a fifth wheel, with plans of spending winters in Texas, but after having so much fun during a visit to Juanita's father in Quartzite Arizona, they decided to spend the next 21 seasons as snowbirds there. They still enjoyed the NCT Camping Club in the Summer months in Colorado.
Juanita is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Al; brother, Ivan; daughter, Barbara; and grandson, Paul. Those left to miss her are her son, Allen and his wife, Debbie; Allen's daughter, Shelly; Paul's son and daughter, Andy and Katie; many great grandchildren, relatives and friends. She will be missed.
