Judith Kazumi Fullwood was born in Manhattan, Kansas on May 26, 1960 to Artis T. Fullwood and Shigeko Shingaki Fullwood. She was the youngest of seven children born to this union. The family moved from Kansas to Denver, Colorado in 1962.
When Judy was a little girl she enjoyed playing house, playing with her dolls and playing Kick Ball with her brothers and sisters. Judy was educated in the Denver Public School system and graduated from George Washington High School. After graduation Judy went to work for AT&T formerly Mountain Bell.
Judith met the love of her life and soul mate, the late Harold Franklin Washington, Jr. in 1975 while in high school. They were inseparable and were united in Holy Matrimony in June 1981. There were no children born to this union however they were blessed with many nieces and nephews. They were known as Uncle Judy" by Harold’s nephew Jimmy and niece Tia Hill when they were youngsters. This was a combination of Uncle Harold and Aunt Judy.
Judy would reminisce about how Harold taught her how to ski and scuba dive; experiences that she never would participate in had it not been for his encouragement. She truly missed her husband, best friend, lover and advocate. Judy would make regular visits to Fort Logan National Cemetery to visit and take flowers to the grave of her husband, usually with her great nephew Robel in tow; whom she provided childcare for in recent years.
Judith passed away in her sleep on Monday, January 7, 2019. She leaves to cherish her memory her mother Shigeko Ward; her brothers: Kazuo Fullwood and Artis T. (Kathy) Fullwood, Jr.; her sisters: Hiroko Ward, Yemiko Fullwood and Nelly Baloney; her sisters in-law: Vera (James, Sr.) Hill, Carolyn Kimble and Devonica (Donnie) McElroy; her brothers in-law, Robert Ward and Michael Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold F. Washington, Jr., her father Artis T. Fullwood; and her brother and sister in-law Takeshi (Elizabeth) Fullwood. Judy, we love and will miss you and we will see you again.
