Kathlyn was born in 1943 in Jerome, Arkansas, in one of the Japanese American internment camps during World War II—a beginning that shaped her quiet strength and deep compassion throughout her life. She was the cherished daughter of Jean and Fred Miyamoto and grew up embracing the values of resilience, love, and family.
Kathlyn made her home in Denver, Colorado, where she raised a family that was the center of her world. She found joy in simple pleasures—coloring, painting, and above all, spending time with those she loved. Her easygoing nature and warm heart made her a source of comfort and laughter to all who knew her.
She is survived by her devoted children, Keri Matsunaga Martinez (spouse Aurelio Martinez) and Garrett Matsunaga; her treasured grandchildren, Darian Matsunaga, Kristena Matsunaga–Aragon, G’Anna Matsunaga, Jasmine Matsunaga–Aragon, and Akira Matsunaga; and her precious great-grandchildren, Emiko Rios, Ozias Rios, Emilio Quinonez-Matsunaga, and Aziel Payan. Kathlyn also leaves behind her loving brother, Richard Miyamoto, and his wife Marlene.
Kathlyn will be remembered for her fun-loving spirit, boundless love, and the peace she brought into every room she entered. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
