Lloyd Jack Russell passed away peacefully Monday September 7th, 2026, at Saint Anthony North hospital. Lloyd or "Jack", as he was known to many, had been residing for the past 3 and half months at Cogir Assisted Living for Seniors in Broomfield.
Jack was the first born to John and Mary Russell in Kimball, Nebraska on February 10th,1930 and grew up there working on the farm with his father. He also had a sister Mary Louise who was 9 and 1/2 years younger and preceded him in death.
After “earning” his college education by working on the farm, he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. While attending college, he served our country in the Naval Reserves for three and a half years.
In 1955 he married Betty Karcher, they moved to the Denver area shortly thereafter, and had two children, Steve and LeeAnne. Jack and Betty started attending Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in 1958 and Jack was received as a Communicant Member in February 1959. He was a member of the choir for 49 years and was even President of Mt. Zion for a year or two. Jack absolutely loved his church and always looked for new faces to introduce himself and Dorothy to.
Jack started his own business, “Jacks Spot Finishing Service” in the early 60’s, which he had for over 20 years. He married Dorothy Osborn in 1977, and added her sons Steve, Dave and Gary Osborn to the family.
He made a big career change at 55 years of age when he started working for AAL and eventually Thrivent. Dorothy worked alongside him, and they retired from Thrivent in 1997. This opened the door for them to travel on a full-time basis, which they did by visiting 27 foreign countries and seeing almost every state in the US as well.
Jack and Dorothy enjoyed their five grandchildren and six great grandchildren throughout the years. They were just one week short of 40 years of marriage together when Dorothy passed in 2017.
He will be remembered for many qualities, but mostly for his strong faith and love for his family.
