Lou had an extremely impressive law enforcement career and was universally well-respected by the many officers he shared various badges with over the years. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from East LA college. As an MP in the Army, he served our nation while stationed in Korea. When honorably discharged, he applied for and then graduated from the LAPD police academy in 1970. His 25-year career with LAPD afforded him the opportunity to serve in a wide variety of ways from his energetic days in downtown Vice to his later assignment as a pioneer and messenger of the burgeoning D.A.R.E program. Retiring from LAPD in 1995, he moved his family to Thornton, CO to join the Adams County Sheriff department as a Lieutenant. He then spent the final years of his career as a U.S. Federal Marshal at the Byron Rogers courthouse in Denver, CO.
A proud family man, he was married to his beloved wife Irene for 50 years. Together, they raised 4 children; Louis III, Jason, Joshua, and April. He cherished his role as a grandfather and loved his 4 grandchildren very much; Thalia, Louis IV, Lily, and Brayden.
To know Lou was to know his collections. A lifelong collector, one of his proudest was his collection of over 1 million trading sports cards. Lou cherished his Jeep Rubicon and all the many accessories he had collected over the years. Always up for an adventure, Lou loved his Jeep trips with his new Jeep dog Evee. He was the kind of guy that went skydiving on his 60th birthday just to say he did it. Lou lived for adventures because they inevitably created content for another story to tell to anyone who would listen. He was a lifelong Dodgers fan and was so happy to see them win the World Series in 2020 for the first time since 1988.
Lou was a hero to countless people during his many years of thankless service to our nation and local communities. His life of service will be remembered and honored by those that knew and loved him best.
A graveside service for Louis will be held Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at 2:15 PM at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 3698 S. Sheridan Blvd., Denver, CO 80235.
