Liz was born born in 1937 in Topeka, KS to the late Genevieve and Carl Nyman. She and Rex moved from Topeka to Northglenn, CO in 1966 and lived there twenty years before moving to Littleton, CO in 1986.
Liz attended Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS for two years prior to getting married, and later attended CU Boulder where she studied music. She obtained her bachelors degree in Women’s Studies from Metro State College in 2006 at the age of 69. This was quite an achievement, as it had been a lifelong goal that she was determined to fulfill. Her mother Genevieve Nyman, who was 92 at the time, was in attendance to see this great milestone. and they both received a standing ovation at the graduation ceremony. The Denver Post even wrote an article about the pair!
Liz was a member of Northglenn United Church of Christ while living in Northglenn, and later attended Columbine United Church in Littleton. Liz loved music and singing and was a member of multiple church choirs as well as the Arvada Chorale. She was a sought after soloist and even gave voice lessons to others. Liz loved to sew and made many of her own clothes and sewed for others. Liz was an avid Broncos fan, and loved watching the games on TV. Liz was a dedicated wife and mother, as well as a caring friend and neighbor.
Liz is survived by her daughter Jill Arnhold of Thornton, CO and son Barry Owen (Kristi) of Littleton, CO and her four grandchildren; Cade Arnhold, Riley Owen, Quinci Owen and Jason Owen as well as her brother James Nyman (Judy) of Topeka, and multiple nephews, nieces and cousins.
Liz is preceded in death by her husband Rex Owen (6/11/2008) and son-in-law Mike Arnhold (8/4/2006).
Due to COVID, and in concern of the health of others, there will be a private ceremony for the family at Olinger Mortuary in Northglenn. She will rest there next to her husband Rex Owen.
