Our beloved Mother left this earth on August 29, 2024 to start her journey to her heavenly home with our Lord and Father.
Mary Rose was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Preceded in death by her husband of 67 years Ruben Duran, her parents Luis and Rose Lorenzo, sisters -Connie Romero, Louisa Montano, Antonia Apodaca, brother Pasqual Lorenzo, brothers-in-law - Arthur Romero, Adelino Montano.
Survived by: brother Mike Lorenzo (Viola), and brother-in-law Pete Apodaca. Four children Kathy Laro (Blue), Michelle Mascarenas (Anthony), Dino and Danny Duran. Grandsons Matthew, Vincent, Lucas Mascarenas, Trevor and Benjamin Laro. Great Grand children (8) and many nieces and nephews.
Mom retired from Keeblers cookie company. Yes, she was one of the Keebler Elves. She worked the graveyard shift. Her Keebler Elf family were very near and dear to her. She would sneak a few freshly baked cookies in her apron pocket so we could have a small treat before heading off to school that day. She loved her children all equally with her whole heart and soul. She raised us to have faith in our Dear Lord and to pray, pray, pray. It didn't have to be a formal prayer if you forgot the words, she would say just talk to God, Jesus or our Blessed Mother they will listen. Prayer is just talking to them and having faith, you can count on them, for they are with you always.
Mom was a woman with many natural talents that she was able to teach herself. She loved plants that turned her into a green thumb, gave her sons and grandsons their first haircuts, Dad never went to a barber. She could sew extremely well. Made me my prom dress, and took a plain wedding dress for me and made it into an expensive looking wedding gown(Kathy). She even did car and furniture upholstery. She was awesome New Mexico cook. Her crochet of blankets was awesome. She crochet for all the grandkids and great grandkids their newborn blankets and blankets for all, clear up until the time of her death. Michelle joked that during the time of Covid, Mom had more yarn at home than Walmart had in their stores. She wanted each of us to have a new blanket to remember her for always.
Mom was a very strong opinionated, independent woman. Dad use to say the worse thing he did was teach her how to drive. But when it came to her grand children and great grandchildren she was a big softie, gave in to their wishes and loved them no matter what, guess that's what Nana's are for. She loved and protected them when they needed it. It is a special right given to Grandparents to spoil their grandchildren and then send them home.
We will miss her every day until we are reunited with her in Heaven. We take comfort she is out of all that pain and in the arms of all those who loved her that have gone before her.
Three words that sum up her life - Faith, Family, Friends.
