

Max grew up in Oklahoma and Texas graduating from Lubbock High School where he was voted to be “Mr. Courtesy”, and he attended Texas Tech University. Max lived most of his life in Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma where he was well known as a master woodworker and cabinet maker. Max, also affectionately known as “Pops”, was well known for his sense of humor, his happy spirit and his love of motorcycles. He loved to ride and was well loved by all those he knew, both as drummer and music lover, Max never met a stranger and he was known to never cast judgment on anyone as he accepted every person he met for who they were.
Max was preceded in death by his parents Rex and Jean Starkey and his sister, Abbe Starkey. Max is survived by one son, James Eli Starkey, of Northglenn, Colorado, two daughters, Joslyn E. Starkey Brown of Thornton, CO. and Heather A. Starkey of Northglenn, CO. ,and their mother Jacquelyn G. Starkey of Northglenn CO. He is also survived by three grandchildren: Kayli Davis, David Brown and Tyler Carlsen, One brother Michael Starkey of Oklahoma and one great granddaughter Kaitlin Carlsen and honorary family members Joel Fee, Lee Ann Freeman and Sean Castor as well as many other family members and loved ones.
A memorial funeral service will be held at Olinger Funeral home in Thornton CO, on Friday January 16, 2015 at 2:00 pm.
