Northild W. Ackerman

Northild Waltraud Ackerman, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2024 in her home at the age of 86. She was born on June 14, 1938 in Gleiwitz, Germany to Alfred and gertrude Czerner. She grew up in hard times as World War II was in progress. While her father was away in the Army, her mother raised Northild (Hilde) and her three siblings.

Food was scarce and they survived on very little. Hilde's stories of how they ended up in East Germany and sneaking over the border back to West Germany as the Russians occupied the area made her the strong, resilient and persistent person she was.

Eventually, Hilde came to America with her family for opportunities for a new life. She was 17 years old when they arrived in Denver, Colorado. Hilde had many suitors, but the lucky one to marry her was Alexander Ackerman. Hilde and Alexander were married on October 19, 1957. Hilde was 19 years old. Hilde and Alexander moved to California, Florida and then to Connecticut where they raised their five children.

Hilde raised the children mostly on her own as Alex found work driving a truck. In 1978 they moved back to Colorado. When the children got older, Hilde joined Alex on the road moving furniture for Bekins Van Lines. She was able to travel all over the United States and, as a team, Alex and Hilde were one of Bekins top 10 drivers. Although Alex retired, Hilde was proud of the fact she kept working until she was 79 for Great Plains North American. They traveled to Europe many times, took cruises, but mostly enjoyed their family. Her yard and flowers were where you could find her if she was home. Hilde was known for helping care for others and giving them a place to stay. She was the hub of our family.

Hilde is survived by her husband, Alexander Ackerman; children, Thomas Ackerman of Casper, Wyoming, Martin Ackerman of Westminster, Diane Keyser (George) of South Shore, Kentucky, Ronald Ackerman of Thornton, Alexander Ackerman, Jr. of Westminster; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; siblings, Ingrid Graham of Denver, Reingard Eaton of Lakeland, Florida and Peter Czerner of Plant City, Florida. In addition to her parents, Hilde was preceded in death by her brother, Alfred Czerner.

A private service was held July 26, 2024 at Olinger Highland Mortuary.

Hilde will be deeply missed.
