Peter "Pete" Howard Martinez, a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, honored veteran, and devout Catholic, passed away peacefully on July 16, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, strength, warmth, and unwavering devotion to his family.

A Rich Life Rooted in Faith, Family, and Service

Pete was born on February 22, 1947, in Denver, Colorado, to Pete and Julia Martinez. Raised with humble beginnings in Denver’s Five Points neighborhood, Pete learned the values of hard work, family resilience, and deep faith early in life. He attended Whittier Elementary and Cole Junior High before graduating from Manual High School in 1965.

Shortly after high school, Pete answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. He served proudly during the Vietnam War, carrying the patriotism, discipline, and strong spiritual foundation of his service with him throughout the rest of his life.

Love, Family, and Career

Upon returning home from the Navy, Pete met the absolute love of his life, Nancy. It was love at first sight. The two were married in Denver on June 15, 1974, beginning a beautiful journey together that spanned 52 wonderful years. Pete loved Nancy with all of his heart, and their enduring union—built on love, trust, and shared values—was a true testament to deep partnership. Together, they raised two children, Fredda and Michael, who were his absolute pride and joy.

Pete dedicated over 36 years of service to the United States Postal Service, where his dependable work ethic and friendly nature earned him the respect of colleagues and community members alike. He retired in 2009, ready to enjoy a well-deserved next chapter.

Joy in the Simple Things

In his retirement years, Pete found his greatest happiness in his faith and in being a grandfather. He adored his two grandchildren, Annabella and Kain, with his entire being, never missing an opportunity to show them how deeply they were cherished.

When he wasn't spending time with his family or faithfully at church, Pete loved relaxing with a good game show, kicking back to watch classic kung-fu movies, or tuning into almost any sport imaginable—always remaining an enthusiastic fan through every season.

Survived and Preceded in Death

Pete is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Pete and Julia, as well as nine of his brothers and sisters: Little Pete, Michael, Joe, Julian, Virginia, Jenny, Francis, Raymond, and Emma.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Nancy; his children, Fredda Martinez and Michael (Anna) Martinez; his cherished grandchildren, Annabella and Kain; his brother, Jim; along with an extended network of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who will miss his warm presence dearly.
