R. Ernest Kite

He grew up in Amarillo and graduated from Tascosa High School in 1960.

He earned a bachelor's degree from West Texas State University in 1964 and served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1964 to 1970.

In 1966, Ernest married his love, Helen Fern Kruse. He worked more than 40 years as an auditor with the Office of Inspector General for Housing and Urban Development. He was active in the Church of Christ, serving as deacon and elder.

Ernest is survived by his son Jerry Kite, Daughter-in-law Jennifer, and their children, PJ and Brittany, along with daughter-in-law April Kite. Ernest was preceded in death by his wife Helen, parents Don and Lois, siblings Leon, Donald, and Gene, and son Terry.

Ernest was known for careful planning, generosity, often picking up the check. He highly valued faith, family, and work.

As we say goodbye for now, we remember his usual parting statements: "Hang loose" and "Keep the faith."

Visitation will be held at Olinger Highland Mortuary & Cemetery, 10201 Grant St, Thornton, CO 80229, US, on May 27, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.  

A Funeral Service will take place on May 28, 2026, at 11:00 am with a committal service to follow.
