

Rich was born November 7, 1955 in Midlothian, Illinois to Alfred and Shirley Aggen. He married Donna Kappan in Loveland, Colorado in 1992.
Rich grew up and attended High School in Chicago, Illinois. He attended and graduated from Adams State College, in Alamosa, Colorado on a wrestling scholarship. His 30 year education career started as an Industrial Arts teacher and wrestling coach at Ft. Lupton Middle School. He earned a Master’s and an Administrative Degree from Colorado State University. He became the High School Athletic Director, Assistant Principal, and later the Ft. Lupton HS Principal. After retiring from Ft. Lupton, he worked as the Executive Director of Facilities at Adams 12 Five Star Schools. After retirement he continued to be actively involved in his community.
Rich was preceded in death by his father and grandparents. Rich is survived by his wife Donna, two children, Jill Davis (Eben), Steve Kappan (Sarah), and four grandchildren: Trey Kappan, Tessa Kappan, Jayna Davis, Mya Davis. His Mother, Shirley Aggen, three sisters: Debra McManus, Donna Calder (Tim), Gina Graniczny (Bob), one brother Ron Aggen, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Rich dedicated his life to education. He motivated his students, athletes, teachers and family to always work hard. Rich made sure his grandchildren knew the importance of education and to follow their dreams. He had many nicknames (Rich, Rick, Ricky, Grampee, Grandfather, Coach) and he was proud of each one of them. In retirement he was able to enjoy traveling, gardening, reading, spending time with his friends and family.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held at the Ft. Lupton High School Gymnasium, 530 Reynolds St., Ft. Lupton, Colorado on June 10th, 2023 at 1:00PM.
