Richard E. Melton, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2024 at his home in Broomfield, Colorado. He was born on December 11, 1953 in Denver, Colorado to the late Marvin (Hap) and LaVonne (Bickel) Melton.
Richard grew up and attended school in the Commerce City area. He graduated from Adam City High School in 1972. While attending Adams City High School, he met the love of his life, Cheryl Spear. They were married on June 2, 1974 at a Methodist Church in Commerce City, Colorado. They brought two wonderful children into their family when they had Randy in 1978 and Laura in 1988. Richard worked a few different jobs throughout his life; including as a sheet metal worker, a mechanic, and multiple different positions at Rocky Flats. Once he was done working, he got to enjoy his favorite position of all: Grandpa.
Family and friends were the most important thing for Richard. He was also the man who could be called to ask questions on cars and home improvement projects, and was often by his children. He enjoyed spending any time he could with his grand kids. He would love to do yard work, play cars, sit and listen to them read, and hear stories about or talk to them on the phone. He also enjoyed taking Cheryl out to “do their loop” and look for yard sales.
Richard is survived by a large family that includes his devoted wife, Cheryl Melton; loving children Randy (Natasha) Melton of Henderson, Nevada and Laura (Jarrod) Haar of Broomfield, Colorado; precious grandchildren, Andrew, Zach, Demetria, Ryder, Haddalee, Akaia, Ronin, Raiden, and Leilani; siblings, Sharon, Deb, Jeani (Buzz), and Teri; as well as many wonderful nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his mother, LaVonne Melton and brother-in-law Robert Rassmussen.
