I think of Robert every time I go to King Soopers ( where he worked) and when I look up to the sky and see marvelous stars....his passion.  I miss him. A gentle soul.

We are really going to miss you Robert.  Our weekly phone calls just to stay in touch. So glad you were able to come visit us most every year. Trips to the beach, Mt Saint Helens, the Columbia River gorge.  The cruise you and I took to Alaska was a special memory .  Of course you just really enjoyed the family get togethers.  You were faithful to visit all the family grave sites with flowers every Memorial Day.  You were a special man.

Memories of our friend Robert Morris

S & S Optika received its Retail Sales License in the fall of 1972.  We worked out of our house for the first year we were in business. Robert was one of our first customers, if not the very first.  
Through the years Robert became a good friend.  He really found his calling when he became interested in the Sun.  He purchased a DayStar H-alpha filter in the early 1980’s, and really enjoyed looking at the Sun.  Soon after, he wanted to start taking pictures of the Sun and use our rental black and white darkroom to make prints. We helped him with exposure times and taught him how to process and print his own work. Many people enjoyed seeing his excitement and the large prints he made.
When we moved to the Littleton store in 2008, we held “Solar Sunday’s” once a month, and Robert and his H-alpha filter and scope were the most frequent participants.  He really enjoyed sharing his passion with others.  Robert was also a frequent participant at the DAS Open Houses, and especially Astronomy Day activities at Chamberlin Observatory (Part of the University of Denver's campus).  And he brought his H-alpha set up to share with the public.  He would also bring some albums of his solar and other astro-photos.
Since we moved to New Mexico, he has visited us for a week, almost every spring, except for the last two years due to Covid.  We were looking forward to this year for him to visit and spend some time together again.  In the spring of 2019, while he happened to be visiting us, was when we rescued a brother and his sister from South Korea. The five of us had a wonderful time together sharing our sites (they had never seen mountains or elk before, nor had they observed the night sky). Once again Robert shared his passion for the stars with them.

His sudden passing has come as a shock to all of us.  We will very much miss him and  the Sun will be a little dimmer now.


Was deeply saddened to hear about Roberts passing. I met Robert as a customer at King Soopers. Every Tuesday morning we saught each other out to talk about our beautiful solar system. He taught me so much. I will forever look beyond the stars and think of him fondly. 

It is such an unfortunate sudden loss of Uncle Robert. Although we lived states apart, when we were able to visit I always looked forward to hearing about his latest adventures to view the solar system and see his amazing photographs. Robert and I shared a love of photography and he was always excited to show me his newest camera and collection of images. He was a kind and simple man and will be missed by many.
