Born on August 30, 1924 in Santa Maria de Los Angeles, Jalisco, she was the eldest daughter of 10 children. Rosa took great care of her younger siblings during her families move to and from San Pedro, California. In that time, she learned how to speak, read and write English; a skill that would go on to help for the rest of her life.
Rosa had 4 living children and 1 deceased child. She blazed a trail for her family when she moved to Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua. There she worked tirelessly to provide for her children and herself. Fearlessly staring border agents in the eye, she crossed the border by foot everyday to work in El Paso, Texas. "American," she would say each time she crossed. Rosa would let out a chuckle every time she relived these memories, "People tell me that I don't have an accent when I speak English. But I can't tell. Do I?" She pushed ahead and eventually settled with her family in Denver, Colorado. Here she laid roots for 4 generations and counting with 19 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, and 16 great great grandchildren.
Rosa loved spending time tending to her plants and flowers, reading and clipping newspaper articles, riding the RTD 38 in and out of town, and so much more. There was never a day you would find her without her purse, her clothes ironed, her hair done, and a pair of earrings. Her family knew who to go to if they needed a jean hemmed, a book to read, or a place to stay.
Rosa Kokoletzi had a challenging life but always did what she felt was best to give her family a brighter future. Anyone who had the honor of sitting down with her was given the gift of her sharing her life story. From those stories, we hold onto all her lessons, words of wisdom and light.
We will never forget you. We love you grandma, always.
To honor Rosa Delgado Kokoletzi, any donations will be kindly accepted in her memory.
