Russell Gene Penrose, 77, returned to his heavenly home on October 4th, 2015 after a valiant battle against cancer. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
Russell was blessed with a large and loving family. He married Kathy Penrose on May 29th, 1968. Together, they worked side by side as sales consultants for several companies including Texas Hobby and Celebrity. They also ran a successful store on EBay where they sold items that Dad enjoyed collecting from various garage and vintage sales. He also worked to assist medically fragile patients by transporting them to their doctors’ appointments.
Russell and Kathy had a marriage of love and friendship that lasted 47 years. Their love and devotion to one another was evident in everything they did. They were truly best friends and always supported one another and their family in every aspect of life. Together Russ and Kathy raised 3 beautiful children, Brian, Bruce and Ginny.
Russell was an exceptional father who raised his son’s Bruce and Brian to be strong yet compassionate men and taught them what it means to be a father and a friend. Russ had a daughter he loved and cherished. She grew to be a very strong, confident, and successful woman. He was an amazing father and friend to everyone he met. He always had a joke to tell to make everyone around him laugh and smile.
“Bampo” had 10 beautiful grandchildren that worshiped and adored him. He and “Mammo” would have them over sleepovers. They always talk about going to the doughnut shop to get doughnuts in the morning. He taught them the meaning of family and the importance of cherishing every moment you have with your family. We celebrated birthdays, Christmas’ and every holiday together. One of our most important family memories were the annual reunions we had with extended family members. We always went to the mountains or had family picnics.
Russell was preceded in death by his mother and father Winifred and John Fredrick Penrose and his brother Royce Penrose. Russell was survived by his wife Kathy Penrose, Brian and Rhonda Penrose, Bruce and Carolyn Penrose and Ginny and Scott Johnson. He is also survived by his adoring grandchildren, Rachel, Mitchel, Lauren, Grant, Kayla, Allen, Ashton, Kaitlyn, Alyssa and Tyler and two great grand children Breille and Avery.
Our family would like to thank the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center for their loving care of Russ and our family during his illness. Donations may be made to the Go Fund Me account for Russell Penrose or to the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center.
The visitation is from 4:00-7:00 on October 8th at Olinger Highland Mortuary and Cemetery at 10201 Grant St. Thornton, CO 80229. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Olinger mortuary above on Friday October 9th, 2015. Burial to follow at Green Mountain Cemetery in Boulder, Colorado.
