Shelley Lyn Dickson

May 16, 1974November 18, 2021

Shelley Lyn Dickson, 47, passed away Thursday, November 18, 2021 in Northglenn, CO due to complications from muscular dystrophy and a stroke she suffered in early 2019. She was born on May 16, 1974 in Colorado Springs, CO to her parents, Nolan Stuart and Linda Dickson.

Shelley graduated from Falcon High School in Colorado Springs in 1992 and studied as a medical assistant at PPI Health Careers School. She was a loving mother, sister and friend, and she had a kind and generous heart. She was especially fond of animals and babies, and she loved her friends, warm weather, scary movies, Raiders football, and drama. She anxiously awaited the arrival of her first grandchild, Blakely, in May 2020. Shelley will be forever remembered by her daughter, Kelsey Hissom (and husband Justin) of Castle Rock, CO; son, Bryan Dickson of Colorado Springs; sister, Stacey Hayes (and husband John) of Winston-Salem, NC; two nephews, Christian and Austin Hayes; two cherished cats, Chubs and Bailey; and her loving friends. She was predeceased by her mother Linda in 2012, her brother Chad Nicholas Delaney Dickson in 2017, and her father Nolan Stuart in 2020.

The family wishes to thank Shelley’s dear friend and Visiting Angel Tamara Burk of Denver, CO for her kindness, creativity and love in helping to improve the quality of Shelley’s life over the last two years. The family also thanks the dedicated staff at Avamere Transitional Care & Rehabilitation who took great care of Shelley through many challenges.

The family condemns state and local authorities (Colorado Department of Health, Tri-County and Adams County) whose policies prevented in-person visitation at Avamere by Shelley’s one and only grandchild during the last 18 months of her life.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Memorial Gardens, 3825 Airport Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80910. All friends and family are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Shelley’s name to Special Kids Special Families ( or to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Shelley, family and friends

So blessed the time we got to spend together.

I often thought Shelley and said to others when seeing you smile whenever I saw you, you made my day equally as I made yours.

Enjoyed all the games we played & visits we had.

I will always remember and think of you.

The kindness and gratefulness you all have is wonderful!

Will miss you, big hug!

She was like a mom to me and I love her with all of my heart and soul and I'm so sorry mama that I had been busy with personal issues I had to deal with recently to see you one last time before you went to heaven. I love and miss you mama so much.
Yours truly, mia

Oh Shelley, there are so many memories and so much I'm going to miss about you it's hard to just pick one.
One of my favorite memory is when we were getting into a "slap" fight in your front yard over some stupid boy and our mom's stood in your driveway talking about their day and not even caring about us carrying on like fools.
I have so many more that I will forever carry in my heart.
I will see you later!

I love you,

Raellen Rutt

Oh my little Shelby Lou Hoo. How many memories we have had. From meeting at our very first job at Discovery Zone, through the next 20+ years of life. We were sometimes our own worse enemy, but we also had the very best of times. I have loved you like a sister and we fought like sisters too. My heart hurts to know you are gone, but you will always live in my heart and in my memories….forever and always. 💔 We will forever be Dusty and Darla…. Love you Shell
