

Shirley Ann (Short) Bloom, 87, of Longmont, Colorado died peacefully Thursday, Oct. 25, after a short illness.She was born May 19, 1931 in Gary, Indiana, the first child for her parents, Jess and Helen Short. Her younger sister, Lorraine, preceded her in death, as did her husband, Richard Bloom.
After graduating as salutatorian at Lew Wallace High School, Shirley lived much of her life in the Detroit suburb of Berkley, Michigan. She worked for many years at Ross Valve, an automotive supplier, and American Youth Hostel. She was also a volunteer at the Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute in Detroit for several years.
Later in life, she moved to Colorado to be closer to her loving family, and continued her service through Habitat for Humanity, where she won several awards. She enjoyed movies, books, spending time with family and friends, and celebrating when her beloved Chicago Cubs finally won the World Series in 2016.
She is survived by four children: Michael Lewis, Sharon Medina, Susan Sullivan and David Lewis; a son-in-law Tom Sullivan, two daughters-in-law: Janie Lewis and Bindu Popat-Lewis; ten grandchildren: Reiley Curran, Maggi Forgue, Mehar Brar and Asha Lewis, Nick, Kristen and Casey Medina, Mallory and Shannon Sullivan, and Janell Coyne; and five great-grandsons: Paul, Lewis and Daniel Curran, and Wayne and Charlie Forgue. She is also survived by stepchildren Carol Wilson and Ardith Hall. Two stepsons, Niles and Ricky Bloom, preceded her in death.
Shirley’s family will gather Saturday, Nov. 3, in Colorado for a private memorial. Her family requests any memorial contributions be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
