March 19, 1993 – June 30, 2025
With broken hearts and deep gratitude for his life, we announce the passing of Steven Joshua Gibson, who left this world far too soon on June 30, 2025, at the age of 32.
Steven was known for his big heart, boundless curiosity, and sense of adventure. He could talk to anyone and gave legendary hugs—the kind that stayed with you. His presence was strong and genuine, and he engaged with the world in a way that was both intense and deeply meaningful.
He found great joy and purpose in teaching. Whether it was self-defense, personal safety, or simply how to face the world with knowledge. Steven loved helping others grow and gain confidence.
One of Steven’s greatest passions was riding his motorcycle across the country. The open road brought him peace and clarity. For him, it was never just about the destination—it was about the journey, the freedom, and the thrill of truly living.
Steven loved deeply and fiercely. His loyalty to family and friends was unwavering. If you were lucky enough to be in his circle, you knew he’d stand by you—always.
He is lovingly survived by his parents, Angela and Michael Matlock. Their grace and resilience during this time reflect the deep and abiding bond they shared with their son. He is also survived by his grandmothers, grandfather, aunts, uncles, brother, sisters, nieces, nephews and many cousins who meant the world to him. Steven was preceded in death by his biological father, Bill Jacoby Jr.
In addition, he leaves behind countless friends and loved ones whose lives were forever changed by knowing him.
A celebration of Steven’s life will be held on:

All are welcome to attend and honor the remarkable life he lived.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention – Colorado Chapter https://supporting.afsp.org/campaign/Steven-Joshua-Gibson-Memorial-, in memory of Steven’s generous spirit.
Though his time with us was far too short, Steven’s impact was deep and lasting. His legacy lives on in every road yet traveled, every life he lifted, and every soul he inspired to live with courage, love, and authenticity.
