

Gene was born in Sterling, Colorado on June 24, 1931. He grew up and spent his youth in Hillrose, Colorado working on the family sugar beet farm. The family moved to Denver in 1950. In March 1952 Gene enlisted in the Air Force where he served as a Specialist in Ground Communications. He was a member of the 814th Operations Group Strategic Air Command(SAC). He served a year tour of duty in Korea during the Korean War and participated in two major operations during the conflict. He returned to the United States and was honorably discharged in March 1956. Upon his return Gene worked for Zimmerman Metals in Denver for 14 years and finished his working career as a truck driver.
Gene had a love for Dutch Hop music, which is Russian-German(Volga German) Polka music. He was quite the good Dutch Hop Polka dancer and carried on that music tradition passed down from his family. Gene and his wife Carol moved to Marysville, CA in 1990 where they lived until moving back to Denver in 2014.
Gene is survived by his wife Carol, his children, Vern Jr.(Christine, Dan, Ted(Belinda) and Elaine(Laura), and his grandchildren, Daniel, Amber, Andrew, and Breanne. He is also survived by his step children, Duane Hoff, Danny Hoff, Dennie Hoff, and Debbie Fredericksen. Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Frieda Schneider, his sister Betty, and brother Robert.
