

Virgina Mary (Benson)Evans passed gently into the hands of our lord on December 24th 2019. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Edwin (Pete) Evans. Her father Floyd Benson, mother Florene Benson, and brothers, Harold, Robert and Floydy Benson. She is survived by Three children, Jerry Evans (Debbie), Greg Evans (Arlene) , and Judy Weaver (Jeff), 10 grandchildren, Stacy Guthrie, Jennifer Joslyn (Chris), Jeff Evans, Michelle Evans, Justin Evans (Tiffanie), Katie Gardner (Andy), Kyle Evans (Michelle), Krista Weaver, Kelli Weaver, and Karyn Weaver (Mike Meinecke). 15 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.
Virginia, was born January 20th 1933 at the Mary Donaldson Woman’s Hospital of Denver. She was baptized at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Wheat Ridge on April 16th 1933. Virginia attended Daniel’s school 1939-1947. She excelled in school, was a member of the Daniel’s school girl scouts troop 1, the Jefferson Rainbow Assembly, Colorado State Rural school Choir, and 4-H. Virginia had an amazing talent for sewing. She received many first place and reserve awards in her years with 4-H, and was the grand champion of the style show in 1948 at the Jefferson fair in Golden.
March 13, 1947 Virginia entered the Three Bees spelling contest and was the first prize winner of a Bolova watch presented by Starr Yelland a famous radio announcer at that time. She graduated to Lakewood HS till 1950, when she met the love of her life Pete Evans. She returned to school years later and earned her diploma from Mapleton HS on May 24th 1973.
Pete and Virginia were married August 23rd 1950 in Lakewood Colorado. Virginia then directed her talents to being a great wife and mother. She managed the Jefferson county school cafeteria 1960 to 1970. Pete and Virginia relocated to Westminster in 1970, and at that time they found not only their forever home, they also found their forever spiritual home at Highland Baptist church.
Virginia went to work at Mesa Elementary as an instructional aide, a position she greatly enjoyed till 1980. At the time of her death, she was a draperies sales associate at JC Penney in Westminster.
Virginia was a very talented artist, poet, seamstress, mom, grandma, and wife. Her legacy will live on in all of the things she touched, painted, sketched and penned. Her gifts and contributions were abundant, but the greatest gift she left behind is special wonderful memories. Rest in peace dear mother, you earned it.
A visitation for Virginia will be held Friday, January 3, 2020 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Olinger Highland Mortuary Chapel, 10201 Grant St, Thornton, CO 80229. Funeral services will occur Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 10:00 AM at Olinger Highland Mortuary Chapel. Interment Olinger Highland Cemetery.
A reception will be held immediately following the interment at Olinger Highland "Long's Peak Reception Room" at Highland.
