Mrs. Weymuth Heuiser Reed, age 81, passed from this life to the next, November 14, 2021, at North Suburban Medical Center in Thornton, Colorado. She was a 31 year resident of Westminster, CO. Weymuth, or Weymie, as she was called, was born on her parents’ farm in Morehouse, MO, July 22, 1940. She grew up on a dairy farm close to Sikeston, MO, along with her mother and father, Arnie and Mattie Crowell Heuiser and her sister, Wilma Heuiser Wood Martin, and her brothers Arnold B. and Carl Heuiser, all who preceded her in passing. Many of Weymuth’s extended family members still reside in the Sikeston, Cape Girardeau and Southeast MO area, where her family farmed for generations. She graduated from Sikeston High School in 1958 where she was a cheerleader, volleyball, basketball and trombone player.
Weymuth attended Union University, Jackson TN, where she was also a cheerleader and active in music performance groups through the music department there, often traveling to perform at area churches. She worked as a bank teller in Sikeston before she married John Howard Reed, of Sikeston and Bloomfield, MO, who preceded her in death. She and “Howard” had 2 children: Catherine, born in 1964, and David, born in 1967.
Many people will remember Weymuth as an active mother and community member. She had a gift for music and working with children which she put to use while living in Sikeston and Chaffee, MO, where she worked for years in the Head Start Program. She often supported her husband in his work and was active in the evangelical church in Salem, IL, Shreveport, LA and in Westminster CO, where she acted as assistant to her husband while he was principal there. She served as the pianist at Belleview Christian School and at the Pillar of Fire Church, both in the Denver CO area, often performing solos, duets and ensembles, as an accompanist for several decades. She loved working with children, music and flowers.
Later in life, she organized and lead travel groups to Europe, with students and adults. Many of these participants became life-long friends. She also travelled to five Central and South American countries to visit her grandchildren.
Weymuth is survived by her children, Catherine and her husband, Lee Zwink and David and his wife, Heather, and 5 grandchildren: Samuel, Christopher, and Ashley Zwink and Johanna and Hallee Lavender, all of the Denver area. She has many “honorary” children and grandchildren, as well. Her life was invested in loving God and people and using her musical talents to praise God and tell others about Him.
Her graveside service was held December 5th, 2021, at the Belleview Cemetery, Westminster, CO, attended by friends and family. There will be a memorial service, to be announced sometime in the spring in the Denver, CO, area.
