Wilma V. Cirbo, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great-great grandmother, went to her eternal rest with the Lord on January 4, 2024 in Thornton, Colorado. She was born on August 6, 1933 in Burlington, Colorado, to Ryle and Vera (Johnson) Walters.
Wilma grew up in Burlington. Shortly after her high school graduation, she met, fell in love with, and married John Cirbo. After returning from their honeymoon, they packed up Wilma's belongings and moved to John's trailer in Denver, CO. Living there for 3 months, they then moved to a 3-room (living/kitchen, bedroom and bath) apartment. While living at the apartment, their two oldest children (Linda and John) were born. In September of 1954, they bought their first home in a brand new subdivision in one of the first subdivisions of northern Denver, CO, called Thornton. Four more children (Mary, Daniel, Anthony and Mark) were born in this home. 1964 brought another move, selling their first home and buying their final home on Richard Rd. In this home, William, their youngest, was born.
Wilma found the most enjoyment in sharing of her musical talent with others by playing the organ/piano at Masses at Holy Cross Catholic Church (where she and John were also founding members), playing and singing for weddings and funerals throughout the Denver/metro area, providing musical entertainment and therapy to folks in memory care facilities. She was also quite active in civic and service organizations; an electoral judge for 12 years, raising money for many different organizations, cooking and/or serving meals to others in need, entertaining , selling "pickles" for Knights of Columbus bingo, and being a cheerleader for John's bowling team(s). She also loved making quilts for her family, making sure every new addition received one.
God, family and friends were very important to Wilma. She enjoyed her involvement in church and community, but was happiest attending birthday, celebrations, activities, and events of her family, especially those involving her Grandchildren. She took great delight in hosting large gatherings (with lots, and lots of food!) especially on the holidays where everyone was welcome, and NO ONE ever went away hungry.
Wilma is survived by her seven children; Linda (Wylie) Smith of Ft. Collins; John (Brooks) Cirbo of Thornton; Mary Cirbo of Broomfield; Daniel (Valerie) Cirbo of Cheyenne, WY; Anthony (Candice) Cirbo of Westminster; Mark (Lynn) Cirbo of Custer, SD; and William (Sherri) Cirbo of Thornton; 22 grandchildren; 42 Great-grandchildren; 2 Great-great grandchildren; and many wonderful nieces, nephews, and friends. Wilma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John, a grandson, Jacob, and her sister, Darleen.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 24 from 3-6pm with a Rosary from 6-7pm, at Olinger Highland Funeral Chapel, 10201 Grant St. in Thornton. Funeral Mass and reception on Thursday, January 25 at 11:00 am at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 9371 Wigham St. in Thornton. Interment is on Friday, January 26 at 10:45am at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W. Kenyon Ave. Denver, staging area "A".
