Yvonne S. Miller, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away in her home on April 5th, 2024, in Aurora, Colorado. She was born on July 26th, 1935, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania to the late John and Minnie (Truax) Shangraw.
Yvonne grew up and attended school in Williamsport. She graduated from Williamsport High School in 1953. After graduation she worked as a phone operator with her sister Ida-Jo. In 1956 she was married to Paul Miller in Williamsport. Yvonne and Paul began growing their family. Since Paul’s work required him to relocate a number of times, they moved from Williamsport to Memphis, to Buffalo, and back to Williamsport in the next four years. They had at least one child in each location. There were times when Yvonne and her children stayed with her mother while Paul was working in yet another city. With five children in tow, they moved from Williamsport to Thornton, Colorado in 1962. She had three more children while living in Thornton.
With eight children born twelve years apart, Yvonne’s time was dedicated to the true priority in her life, and that was family. She and Paul took their large family on multiple cross-country road trips to visit their extended family in Pennsylvania.
Yvonne and Paul were also able to travel together. They enjoyed an Alaskan cruise, as well as a trips to Hawaii, Idaho, Mexico, Bermuda, and Tahiti.
Yvonne loved music, singing, and dancing. She was often found singing along to her favorite Barbra Streisand records while she was working around the house. Additionally, Yvonne had artistic talent. She particularly enjoyed painting ceramics and drawing. As a student in Junior High-School she entered and won a contest to paint holiday windows for a local department store, for which she was paid. Later in life, she enjoyed completing detailed coloring books.
Yvonne is survived by her sister Ida-Jo Shuman of Kansas City, MO; her eight children, Leslie Hawkins of Springdale, AR, Paul Miller Jr. of Littleton, CO, Brent Miller of Denver, CO, Monica (Phil) Swift of Omaha, NE, Lisa (Karl) Lovely of Brighton, CO, Tina (William) Jordan of Aurora, CO, Douglas (Felisha) Miller of Coos Bay, OR, Tracy (Duane) Younger of Ft. Lupton, CO; precious grandchildren Jason, David, Vincent, Nathan, Tyler, Adam, Jacob, Joshua, Jonathon, Yvonne, Bradley, Andrew, Timothy, Cameron; as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to her parents, Yvonne is preceded in death by her devoted husband of sixty-four years Paul Miller, as well as her sister Laura Gehret, and her brother Joseph Shangraw, and her granddaughter Deanna Swift.
The Eulogy will be read at 10:50 a.m., followed by a Catholic Mass of Christian burial held on Tuesday, Tuesday April 16th at St. Augustine Catholic Church, 178 S. 6th Ave., Brighton, CO. A reception will be held immediately following services.
A burial service for military spouses will be held at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W. Kenyon Ave, Denver, CO. Wednesday April 17th at 11:00 am.
