Adele Louise Cummings
September 14, 1953 – August 31, 2021
Adele Louise (Lehan) Cummings
Adele was born September 14, 1953 in Portland, Oregon to James B. and Dorothy J. Lehan, the youngest of three girls. She grew up in Wilsonville and was the descendant of numerous Wilsonville area pioneers. She attended Wilsonville Grade School with the eighth grade class of 1967, and West Linn High School, graduating in the class of 1971. Adele maintained long lasting friendships with several of her childhood classmates. She attended Oregon State University but broke from the family tradition and graduated from the University of Oregon in 1976 with a degree in Recreation and Park Administration.
Adele worked for Payless Drug Stores Northwest in the Wilsonville administrative offices where she was a buyer and also worked on the new store set-up crew that traveled the western states establishing new stores. An enthusiastic traveler, she traveled not just for work but went on numerous ski trips to McCall, Tahoe, and Aspen with her sister, Susan, and her nephews, Greg and Daniel. Always a sun lover, she took several trips to Hawaii and toured Europe for three weeks with her sister, Charlotte.
Adele was a Clackamas County Master Gardener who knew the Latin names of every flower in her garden and one spring planted more than 300 impatiens so she would have color in the shady part of her yard. She also spent many hours helping friends and family design and plan their own vegetable and flower gardens.
In 2002 she met Wayne Cummings and they were married on her birthday later that year. Their wedding became the catalyst for renewing relationships with relatives across the country, including her half-brother, Jim Lehan whom she had only come to know as an adult. Over the years, Adele and Wayne took many road trips to Colorado, Texas, Nevada, and California resulting in numerous family reunions. Adele passed away after a long illness on August 31, 2021 at the age of 67. She is survived by her husband, Wayne, her sisters, Susan Harrison and Charlotte Lehan, her nephews, Greg and Daniel Wiancko, her brother, Jim Lehan, her lifelong friend, Gigi Vlahos, and her loyal kitties, Sammy and George, who rarely left her side.
Friends are invited to join the family of Adele Cummings, to commemorate the committal of her urn at Pleasant View Cemetery on Saturday, September 25th at 1pm.
