

Albert Austin Montague Jr., 92, of Tualatin OR., passed away Saturday, July 5, 2014. He was born October 17, 1921 in Azusa California, the second of three children to Albert Austin Sr. and Garnet (Buck) Montague.
He graduated from Leuzinger High School in Lawndale California and Pasadena Community College in Pasadena California.
He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1941 and was assigned to submarines based in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and survived the attack of Dec. 7th 1941. He served throughout the Pacific and the Aleutians and encountered many harrowing experiences during WW II. His submarine was reported lost twice but fortunately he returned safely. He returned home in 1946 but was recalled in 1950 for the Korean war and returned in 1952.
He married Kathleen Fuson on August 5, 1950 and had three children, Phillip, Brian, and Michelle. Kathleen passed away in 1994. He was a construction worker, mailman, and a Los Angeles County Sheriff. He was a Mason and a Past Master of the Alhambra, California Lodge. He was a member of the Norwood Bible Church in Tualatin and was active with the Tualatin Senior Center. He was a ham radio operator and an avid golfer who had a hole in one.
He married Opal Paukner on July 5, 1998 and they had a wonderful 16 years together.
He is survived by wife, Opal; son Phillip (Michelle), daughter Michelle (Ed) Sheets, grandsons Josh, Adam and Ryan, granddaughters Sarah and Cara, and Melanie, and Opal's children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his son Brian, his brother Boyd and his sister Mary.
A visitation will be held before and after the memorial service presided over by Pastor Vernon Hollins at 11:00 A.M. Monday, JUly 14, 2014, at Young's Funeral Home. 11831 SW Pacific HWY., Tigard, OR. 97223. A Reception will immediately follow. A private interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery.
He was a loving, kind and generous man with a great sense of humor and a strong faith in the Lord. He will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all that knew him.
