Barb was born September 29, 1936, in Hibbing, Minnesota. Through her early school years in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota she was known as "Kitty". Family was always very important to Barb, and she loved spending time with her parents, her older brother Donald, and her numerous cousins. Music also played a huge part of her life; she played multiple instruments including piano, saxophone, and bassoon, and played in the school band. As a teenager in the 50's, she loved spending her summers, riding her bicycle to the Lakes, where she would spend the day swimming with her many friends, working as a lifeguard, and serving up food and drinks at a lake-front restaurant.
She received a bachelor's degree in Education at Valparaiso University, Indiana and soon afterwords moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado to start her lifelong career of teaching primary school. Throughout her teaching career she taught preschool through 3rd grade and became a teaching specialist in Dyslexia.
She met the love of her life, Roy Muckey, in the summer of 1960 on a blind date that she went on at the last minute as a "favor for a friend". Six months later they wed on New Year's Eve.
Barb lived significant part of her 89+ years in Minnesota, Colorado, Oregon, and California. After starting a family, every summer Barb and Roy would gather their three children into a camper of varying sizes and set off making memories on an adventure somewhere across the country. Barb was a longtime choir member at Ascension Lutheran Church in Medford, Oregon, and developed a wonderful social group of friends she and Roy called "the group of 10". Along with extensive traveling and scrapbooking, Barb loved to attend her children's and grandchildren's activities whenever possible. Over the last decade, Barb and Roy took huge joy traveling in support of their granddaughter's robotics competitions and grandson's baseball games.
Barb was a fighter throughout her 2-year journey with Lewy body dementia and Alzheimer's disease. She was predeceased by Roy in 2024, and is survived by her three children, Ross (Michelle) Muckey, Brett (Candice) Muckey, and Ann (Doug) Arm; her three grandchildren, Nikki Arm, Josh Arm, and Davarie Muckey.
