Bert Lee Ferrell
September 14, 1926 – August 12, 2019
Dr. Bert Lee Ferrell, aged 92, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2019, while at home, in King City, Oregon. Bert was born in Memphis Tennessee, to his father, Bert Miller Ferrell, mother, Mary Lou, and older sister, Jeanne. Bert joined the Navy during World War 2, where he was a medic. After serving his country, he went to the University of Tennessee College of Medicine to become a general practitioner and surgeon. Bert met his wife, C. Beth Wenzel at Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago where they both were interns in residency. After their marriage, Bert and Beth moved to Mount Angel, Oregon to set up a medical practice. The Ferrell’s built a small clinic in Mount Angel, where Bert served the community as the small town doctor and surgeon, - back when country doctors still made house calls and did everything from primary care to appendectomies. Often people showed up at the house at all hours of the night! Some would pay their bills in produce, back in those days. In 1967, the family moved to Kalimantan Barat, Indonesia to participate in the opening of a mission hospital and nursing school, for the jungle populations living in the rain forest. Bert will be remembered for his love and commitment to serving God and the people around him, who ever they might be. He loved woodworking, to sing a tune, dance a jig, and, he possessed a ready sense of playfulness and humor. Bert is proceeded in death by his parents. He is survived by his sister, Jeanne, wife, Christine Beth, son, Stephen and daughter, Karen. He has 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Services for Bert will be held, with family, at Willamette National Cemetery. Later, a Celebration of Life at Grace Point Community Church in Tigard, Oregon.
