Alf and Inge liked Oregon, they bought a house, and after one more tour in Germany, made it their home. Alf retired from the Army on March 28, 1974 as a Command Sergeant Major. After a short try to work in construction, he joined the Post Office and was a walking mail carrier for the next 15 years in NE Portland. Alf loved to show Oregon to family and friends when they came to visit and never got tired of driving them to Mt. Hood, down the coast to the Redwoods or to Crater Lake. He and Inge took cruises to Alaska, Mexico, South American and the Caribbean.
In 1998 they moved to a one level house in Sherwood, Oregon. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, his extended family and his neighbors. He is survived by his wife, Inge; daughter, Lily; sons, Daniel and Swen; brother, Robert; and grandchildren, Hailey, Keahi, Nathan and Helena.
