Bill Graham was a “mensch”. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, son and uncle. Bill was soft-spoken and a sincere gentleman. A quick wit and smart style were also part of his charm. Bill collected all kinds of musical instruments, and never met a ukulele he didn’t like. A Master Gardener and wonderful cook, who was famous for his salmon, he enjoyed taking long drives (he was a Very Good Driver) and exploring nature. Bill loved reading to his grandchildren. Instilling the value of hard work and respect for others, made Bill a fine teacher and mentor.
Born on the family farm in Halfway, Missouri, they moved to Kansas City in 1941: 2 adults, 6 kids, 1 dog and ALL their belongings, in a 1929 Dodge. He later spent 3 years traveling the country, before serving in the US Marine Corp, stationed in Japan. He worked in the clothing business in Tacoma, WA and Kansas City, MO, before moving to Northern California in 1962 and Oregon in 1975. After a long career in sales, Bill retired in 1994. His retirement years were spent with his wife, Susan, traveling in their motor home, spending winters in Florida, visiting his mother (who lived to 104), and enjoying his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Susan Kathleen (Duffy) Graham; children Scott Graham, Philip Graham (partner Tina), Andrew Graham (wife Laura), and Winifred Graham, from his marriage to Pat Anderson, all of Portland, OR; grandchildren Ember Roth, Oliver Graham, and Levi Graham.
Bill is also survived by his siblings Carl Bruce Graham Jr (wife Helen) of Petaluma, CA, Marian Thomasson (husband Joe) of Bartlesville, OK, Doris (Graham) Senger of Carmel, CA, and sister-in-law Carol Graham of Jackson, MI, as well as numerous loved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Carl Bruce Graham Sr, mother Lora Fay (McKinney) Graham; sister Willa (Graham) Dickinson and brother Robert Dean Graham.
Although he will be sorely missed, knowing Bill had a great life and was ready for the next chapter, gives us all a sense of comfort.
