She was born in Lansdale, PA on December 7, 1958 to Ernest and LaVerne Reber. Carol graduated from North Penn Senior High School in Lansdale, PA and received a BS in Forestry from Penn State University followed by an MS in Forestry from the University of Minnesota. She was married to Richard Lee Apple on March 30, 1985 and the couple moved to the west coast where they worked as a team for the US Forest Service. Carol was predeceased by her husband, Rich, and was passionate about Sherwood Relay for Life, raising money for cancer research through the American Cancer Society for many years. Her favorite part of the Relay for Life event was the luminaria ceremony. She was also an active member of the Lake Oswego United Church of Christ where she taught Sunday School and enjoyed socializing with fellow Sojourners. Carol enjoyed the outdoors throughout her life: camping with her family, gardening, taking advantage all available U-pick berries, crafting with wool and lavender, photographing wildlife at the Tualatin Wildlife Refuge and teaching others about nature and conservation. She attended yoga classes often and loved taking walks with her mom and dog, Honey.
She is survived by her daughters, Sarah and Amanda Apple, and her mother, LaVerne Reber. Carol will be greatly missed and is remembered for her love of nature, selflessness, and her snowmen decorations.
A memorial service will be held at 10 am, May 13, at the Lake Oswego United Church of Christ (1111 Country Club Rd. Lake Oswego, OR 97034).
For those wishing to make a donation, she requested they be made to the American Cancer Society (https://www.cancer.org/involved/donate.html).
