Beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother Carolyn Louise Oldfield passed away on August 4, 2023 from a heart condition. To celebrate her long joyful life, the family will be gathering to share memories on her birthday October 5, 2023 at the home where her and her husband Bob spent the remainder of her life together.
Carolyn was born on October 5, 1942 in the little town of Inglewood California, to her parents Betty and Wes Killmer. Carolyn spent a good bit of her younger years as a role model to her younger siblings, as she was the oldest of five. Jimmy, Joan, Margaret “Gina”, Jack, and Carolyn, grew up to be not only bonded by blood, but bonded by love and throughout the years cherished many memories of togetherness and friendship.
Carolyn had a great love for the simple things in life. Family, Joy and Happiness are three words her friends and family would use to describe the things she cherished most. Something as simple as sending a birthday card, signed with her beautiful Victorian cursive, to a loved one is just one example of her thoughtfulness. She never missed a holiday or an excuse to phone somebody she loved just to congratulate them on their upcoming success, or even just to say she was thinking of them.
One of Carolyn’s fondest traditions was Camp Grandma where she and her sister Gina would take their granddaughters to a special place each summer to explore and create memories that would last a lifetime. For 16 years, Carolyn and Gina gave their granddaughters the most beautiful Camp Grandma memories, and it’s because of these wonderful times that they too will make this a tradition in the generations that follow.
From the moment Carolyn could walk, she was strutting her way around the garden with style. As she grew up she became a friend to everyone who would cross her path. Whether a close friend, distant cousin or the local grocer, no one would forget her darling smile and charming personality. For those that knew her best also knew she could be the sharpest thorn on the cactus every now and then.
Aside from charming the world around her in her personal life she also took over the Winco (formerly know as Waremart) industry by storm. Heading up the Floral and Video departments all over the US from the late 80s to early 90s. This was after her career change of running the Bette Carol Flower Shoppe with her mother in De Moines Wa. Winco not only gave her a formidable career, but it led her to going out Honkey Tonkin one night with the head butcher Robert (Bob), who she would soon come to fall in love with and live a long happy marriage of 39 years.
There are not enough words on a page or lyrics in a song to fully share Carolyn’s long and inspiring story. For those of us closest we will keep her memory alive with sharing stories, looking through old photographs and or by planting her favorite flowers in the garden.
Carolyn will be forever remembered by her Husband Bob. Her loving children and step children Dan, Tami, Kyle, and Brenda. And Granddaughter, Jessica. Along with her siblings Gina and Jack, close friends, and family. She spent all her years touching souls and gracing people with her beautiful spirt. Carolyn lived a long happy life full of love and captivating memories, and although it was hard to say goodbye, we find peace knowing that the life she led while she was on this earth, was nothing short of beautiful.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.youngsfuneralhome.org for the Oldfield family.
