Clint, as he liked to be known (you know, like that Eastwood guy), was born in Burns, Oregon to Clinton and Helen (Solomon) Huffman. Clint grew up there and learned to fish, hunt, and enjoy the outdoors with his younger brother John and sister Shirley. He became enamored with the Steens Mountain area in Southeast Oregon and made many trips there.
The family moved to the Hood River area and lived there for a few years before moving to Albany, Oregon. Clint attended Albany High School and graduated in 1949. He was a successful wrestler and became the State Champion at both the high school and AAU levels as a heavyweight.
On October 17, 1951, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and served with the 143rd Field Artillery during the Korean War. He was honorable discharged on July 16, 1953, achieving the rank of Corporal. Because of his red hair, he was called RedDog by his fellow soldiers and the Korean people he met during his time there.
After returning from Korea, he dated a former high school classmate, Gloria Fintel, who has become his pen-pal while he was in Korea. He married her on February 27, 1954. They resided for a while in Albany, then moved to Beaverton and ultimately to Lake Grove. Together, they had two children, Cathy and Michael. Gloria passed away in 2013.
Clint studied at the Portland Art Museum and eventually became a graphic designer. He did advertising work for companies like Jantzen Swimwear and Sunn Music. He designed the logo for the Portland Beautification Association that was used on their aware plaques. He started his own business, Clinton Huffman Design, with an office in the Galleria building in downtown Portland.
After he retired, he served part-time as an usher for the Portland Rose Garden and enjoyed many of the concerts that he was assigned to there. He was immensely proud when he was assigned to the Portland Trailblazer basketball games at the floor level, where he met many players, coaches, announcers, patrons, and dancers.
In his three final years, Clint resides at Bonaventure of Tigard, an assisted living facility. He watched his beloved Trailblazers on TV with a co-resident who was his special friend and former Lake Grover next-door neighbor, Eileen Burt. They excelled at their bingo and trivia activities together.
Clint is survived by his sister, Shirley Klug, his daughter Cathy Winans (Dean), his son Michael (Suzanne), grandchildren Ryan, Alison, Lindsay, Bailey, Julianne, Sean, Meghan, and 11 great-grandchildren. His brother John passed away in 2020.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Korean War Veterans Association (P.O. Box 25, Gladstone, OR 97027) would be welcomed.
Funeral Mass is scheduled for 11:00am January 12. 2024, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 650 "A" Avenue in Lake Oswego, OR 97034. A private interment will be held at Willamette National Cemetery with Honors.
