Dean "Rick" Richard Wilson

April 28, 1946 – March 16, 2025
Obituary of Dean "Rick" Richard Wilson
IN THE CARE OF

Young's Funeral Home

Dean "Rick" Richard Wilson D.D.S. ,78, died peacefully March 16, 2025 at his home in Lake Oswego after a long illness.

Rick was born April 28, 1946 in Hammond, Indiana to Dean M. Wilson and Bonnie Richards Wilson but spent his formative years in Houston, Texas. There he enjoyed scouting (Eagle Scout), roaming the undeveloped areas of his Houston suburb with friends, reading encyclopedias, and fishing with his dad.

Rick held degrees from Memorial High School '64 (Merit Scholar), Tulane University '68, and the University of Texas Dental School '72. He especially enjoyed his time in New Orleans with good friends Drew Ranier, Jim Clower, Rick Conway, Sayer Brenner and many more.

Upon graduation from Dental school in 1972, Rick moved to Oregon and practiced dentistry in NE Portland for 47 years. He was in private practice at 5835 NE Alameda Street and eventually became the owner of the building. Rick truly enjoyed helping his patients and working alongside office manager Kristan Campbell, Julie Seitz and dental hygienists, Heather Holmes and Elena Heller.

Rick was past president of The Multnomah Dental society and the Oregon Dental Association. He served both groups in many different capacities. He also volunteered with a Quaker missionary society to bring medical care and dentistry to underserved groups in Peru and Malawi.

Rick was happiest in the outdoors hunting and fishing. The Deschutes River and the K-Bar L were two of his favorite places. He instilled the love of fishing in his son Colin which brought him great joy. Later in life he particularly loved fishing with his neighbor and friend Bill Luettgerodt. It was with him that Rick caught the biggest trout of his life which Bill videoed to be enjoyed by his family for years to come.

Rick is survived by his wife Deborah Ranier; son Colin Wilson (Megan); stepson Andrew Roberts; stepdaughter Jennifer Roberts (Jim); grandsons Kyler Wilson and Gus Iorio; sisters Nancy Meadows and Barbara Ramm (Brian); niece Haley Williams (Peter); nephews Max Ramm (Madigan); Dan Meadows; Andrew Meadows (Katie) and grand niece Georgia Grace Williams whom he desperately wanted to meet in person but his illness did not allow.

Rick loved life and will be missed by many. He requested that there be no service.

Donations in his name should be made to the environmental group of choice or to one of the many dog rescue groups.
