Larry was born the first child of Edmund (Hap) and Hazel Adams in Westerly, RI on January 14, 1949. Two years later he was joined by sister Bonnie Jo and 13 years later with brother Mark.
His father’s employment opportunities and business resulted in exposure to moves from the East to the West Coast and, for a very short time, even to Puerto Rico.
Larry graduated from Glastonbury High School in Glastonbury CT and subsequently graduated from Grahm Junior College in Boston MA.
Larry married Sheri Pugh on March 1, 1975 and spent 41 years blessing her with his abundance of kindness and love.
Although his initial career plan was to teach History, Larry’s love of cars prevailed, and he had a long and interesting career in the automotive industry. He worked as an auto mechanic for a number of years before his employment at Portland Community College where he taught automotive technology for 32 years, which included one year assigned to the General Motors Training Center as an instructor. At PCC, he became lead instructor for the General Motors Automotive Service Education Program (GM ASEP), a two-year degree program for auto mechanics who were sponsored by and interning with a dealership. He was regional president of this organization for some time and represented PCC in several national organizations including the National Alternative Fuels Training Consortium (NAFTC).
When the Tigard GM Training Center closed, Larry was recruited to integrate the GM Training Center into the PCC Sylvania Campus and arrange updated training for seasoned GM technicians.
When he retired from PCC, Larry’s enjoyment came from a good day of woodworking, or, as he called it “just tinkering” in his shop, traveling and camping with friends and family and especially being a sidekick to his daughter at her Jewelry shows.
