Elaine was born January 7, 1928 in Portland, Oregon to Dan & Frieda Durst.
She married Thomas W. Mummey on July 11, 1945. They celebrated 69 years together and raised four children in the house they built in Portland, OR, and where she helped her husband in his hardware and garden supply business in Multnomah.
Elaine was a runner-up in the 1965 Mrs. Oregon pageant.
Elaine and Tom had been long time members of West Hills Christian Church and Beaverton Christian Church.
Among her personal interests were vacation adventures with her husband, and hiking Oregon and Washington together. At home, Elaine loved sewing and outfitting her and her family in style. She supplied family and friends with lovingly and skillfully-canned fruits and vegetables from the shared family garden, and was well-known for her lemon and rhubarb pies. She also loved feeding the birds that would visit the back yard and watching the hummingbirds enjoy her many beautiful flowers. The lilies in her yard, not expected to blossom until mid-July, were in full bloom on June 26, the day of Elaine’s rebirth in the Lord.
Elaine was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Daily, and by daughter Maurine Ruesterholz.
She is survived by her husband Tom; her youngest daughter Marcille Wagner of Portland, and sons Daniel Mummey of Waldport, OR and Alan Mummey of Portland, OR; son-in-law Horst Ruesterholz; six grandchildren: Karl Ruesterholz, Kurt Ruesterholz, Elsa Rusterholz, Andrea Roeser, Samuel Wagner and Korin Mummey; and great-grandchildren Taylor Bradley, Daniel Roeser, Preston Murders, and Brennan Turner.
Elaine will be laid to rest at graveside services on Monday, July 14, 2014 at 2:30 PM at Willamette National Cemetery. Pastor Joe Core of West Hills Christian Church will be officiating.
Arrangements under the direction of Young's Funeral Home, Tigard, Oregon.
