OBITUARY

Elisabeth Sue Hornbrook

June 27, 1984May 24, 2013

Elisabeth Sue Hornbrook was born on June 27, 1984, in Spokane, Wash., the third of four children born to Lynn and Jody Hornbrook. As she was growing up, her family lived in Spokane and Lake Oswego, Ore. Elly graduated from Lakeridge High School in 2001, and then pursued another of her loves: travel. She toured Australia and Ireland on her own, and visited Spain during the two years that she was nanny to a family who adored her. Elly worked at Lake Grove Veterinary Clinic and at the Christi Care Center for children with emotional and behavioral problems. In 2006 Elly received her BA in liberal arts from The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Wash. Elly loved the outdoors and all that came with it. She played soccer and lacrosse as a secondary school student, and took every opportunity she could to hike in the woods, play on the beach, snowboard on the slopes, or ride horses on the trail or in the ring. Above all else, Elly loved her family, but animals came in a close second, especially horses and dogs. She rescued several dogs, and her gentle pitbull-lab mix now seems lost without her. Elly was a person of faith, always confiding her thoughts to her private journal. She enjoyed photography and reading, especially inspirational sayings and writings. Her sisters called her a “movie freak” because she would watch her favorites over and over. Anyone who knew Elly would call her cute, sweet, sensitive, and caring. These traits never left her, even as she spent the final five years of her life fighting hard to overcome the illnesses that challenged her. Her final act of caring is being a tissue and bone donor. Elly was preceded in death by her father Lynn, and her brother Seth. She is survived by her mother Jody, her sisters Anna and Mary, her nephews Kyle and Logan, her grandfather Gerald Everitt, and an extended family of cousins, aunts and uncles. Elly’s life will be celebrated at a Memorial Service on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 4:00 PM in the “Courtyard Room” at Rolling Hills Community Church, 3550 SW Borland Rd, Tualatin, OR 97062.

I'm so sorry for you and Elly, and I'm glad I had the chance to meet her and try to help her and your family along with Drs. Wilson and Kundu and the rest of the OHSU staff.

Strong families are so important for people like Elly, and it is clear to me that this was one of the most positive aspects of her life.

Elly, I always thought you were a wonderful person and always had a great amount of respect for you. We hung out once in awhile at Waluga and everyone would have a good time when you were around. Glad you got to experience the world and show em all your love and contagious smile.

Elly- It has been a while since we last saw each other however I remember it like it was yesterday. You were always such a bubbly, charasmatic girl and your smile was contagious. I remember your love and passion for animals and you were always kind and nice to me. I was at a loss for words when I learned of your passing. I pray for your mom, sisters and family to find strength during this difficult time.

Our paths crossed only briefly in this lifetime but I am glad to have known you, dear, sweet, little Elly, and so sad that you are gone.

Elly, I didn't know you but I have known your mom for years. I recognize in your smile the beauty your mom always shared with those around her, it was always clear how much she loved her children. Your smile remains in my heart as a tribute to what you gave to others during your time here. Even though there is heartbreak, I know you have found peace and comfort. Breath that peace and comfort into your mom and sisters as they walk their journey of grief. Clearly, you will be missed by SO many. Ann Cornely...Jody's work friend.
